From Manhattan to Maui: Honeymoon Across the U.S.
The day after their wedding, this newly-wedded couple went from the East Coast to the West Coast and even the Hawaiian Coast during a three-week honeymoon across the United States.
Two weeks after becoming a certified travel agent, I got a message asking for help planning a honeymoon.
The client gave me a list of six U.S. cities and a national park they wanted to visit within three weeks. I understood why they needed help!
He asked to meet in an hour to discuss the trip, and by the time we got on the call, I already had a route with price estimates ready to share.
I proposed that they begin in New York City. After a few days, they would take the train to Washington, D.C., and then fly to Chicago, spending two to three days in each city.
From there, they would fly to Bozeman and visit Yellowstone. Then, they would go to Hawaii, and we would figure out which island later. Lastly, they would conclude their trip in Los Angeles.
He was so impressed that I quickly connected all the dots for their honeymoon and agreed to move forward.
The wedding was five weeks away, and they were going to leave for their honeymoon the next day, so I immediately got to work!
While developing the itinerary, we settled on Maui and picked a flight with a long enough layover in Seattle to see the famous spots. We also added one night in Las Vegas after Maui, and then they’d drive to Los Angeles.
I was really excited about all of the surprises the client wanted me to arrange for his wife. He was the absolute sweetest! The surprises included:
A posh picnic in Central Park
A helicopter tour of NYC at night
I made it seem like they were doing traditional camping in Yellowstone, but they were actually staying at a luxury glamping site.
A fountain view at the Bellagio
And a modern tiny cabin in the woods en route to Los Angeles.
It was quite tricky managing two versions of the itinerary to make sure the client had all of the details, but his wife couldn’t see it.
The one thing I was bummed about was their dream for Hawaii. They had seen properties with private pools on social media. However, they needed complete privacy, and those pools were semi-private. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a property that fit their criteria, so they prioritized better beach access away from crowds.
Overall, the client said the honeymoon was amazing, and they really appreciated my help. He gave me a heartwarmingly positive review!
From my perspective, I couldn’t have asked for a better “first” client right after I got certified. He was so thoughtful and a pleasure to work with. I hope their honeymoon never ends, and they continue to have a life of love and adventure!
